Men’s Tennis Set For Strong Sun Conference Play

    #6 Men's Tennis returns home for the final time in the regular season, in the two game homestand they will take on two ranked opponents in two days. #16 Coastal Georgia, and #19 SCAD-Savannah.

    Southeastern has already had a run in with the Mariners of Coastal Georgia this season, seeing them in the ITA Indoor Nationals. The Fire ruled their Sun Conference competition, winning 4-0 behind convincing victories at lines one, two, and four after outlasting the Mariners in doubles.

    The Fire are 4-3 all time versus the Mariners and come into this contest winning the last four versus Coastal Georgia. This season the Fire are currently on a three game winning streak, and have won 13 of their past 14, with their only loss being a hard fought 4-2 loss to the #3 Keiser Seahawks.

    Coastal Georgia stands at 6-6, 3-2 SUN with some tough losses to ranked opponents. After losing to Keiser the Mariners bounced back in a big way with a 4-0 win over St. Thomas.

    The Fire are home to three ranked individuals in singles, and all flights of their doubles are ranked. Diego Menendez, plays line two and is ranked #14, Bruno Pessoa in line one is ranked 19th, and Alejandro Orihuela runs between lines three and four and is ranked 49th. In doubles, Menendez and Pessoa run together to form the #4 doubles team in the NAIA, Piero Fernandez and Mark Griffin play in flight three ranked #21 overall, and Victor Olivera and Orihuela form the #49 doubles team.

    The Mariners Adrian Guye is the lone ranked individual for Coastal Georgia, landing #31 overall in singles.

    The day after battling the Mariners, the Fire welcome the Fighting Bees of SCAD-Savannah to the Lakeland Beerman Family Tennis Complex. SCAD ranks 20th in the NAIA, holding to an 8-7, 3-2 SUN record. The Bees roll into this on a two game winning streak, most recently winning 4-1 against RV Ave Maria.

    SCAD-Savannah is home to two ranked doubles teams and one ranked singles player. Daniel Ozernoy ranks 15th overall in singles, Ernesto Martinez and Firas Ben Chouikha form the #42 doubles squad, and Mark Tryakshin and Liam Stoica run as the #50 doubles team.

    The Fire and the Mariners battle Friday at 1 p.m., and the Bees pay their visit on Saturday at the same time.
