Biography
SOPHOMORE (2024-25): Fernandez’s second season with the Fire was a level up from his first. Flexing between courts one and two in singles play, he finished as #37 in the NAIA in singles play with a 10-4 record. In doubles, he paired with Diego Menendez, forming the #2 doubles team in the NAIA, the best in school history with a 16-3 record. In the historic comeback victory over #3 Keiser, he kickstarted the thrilling win with a straight sets victory over Yassir Kilani on court two, 6-2, 7-5. His most impressive doubles win came in Southeastern’s last match of the season, teaming up with Menendez and knocking off the #1 doubles team in the NAIA from #1 Georgia Gwinnett College 6-3. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was named Second-Team All-Sun Conference, earned the first Sun Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and was named an ITA NAIA Doubles All-American.
FRESHMAN (2024): The Sun Conference Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Year dominated his first season of college tennis. Fernandez worked mainly in lines four and five, turning in a 15-5 record with 11 straight sets wins. In doubles he worked flights two and three with Mark Griffin, showing out and posting a 15-5 record, finishing the season ranked 47th after ranking as high as 22nd. With Griffin he picked up two ranked wins including a 6-3 over the #21 doubles team from #6 William Woods. His outstanding season-long play earned him Second-Team All-Sun Conference honors.
