Box Score Men's Tennis took a trip to Warner University to upend the Royals in the first Sun Conference contest of the season for the Fire. The Royals proved to be a challenge, but the Fire pieced together a 4-1 victory behind some later line victories.
Doubles kicked off the day for the men and the Fire took two out of three. Victor Pilla and
Alejandro Orihuela defeated Eduardo Morais and Sam Routzahn 6-3, and
Piero Fernandez and
Mark Griffin blanked their opponents Nikhil Mittal and Luis Rodriguez 6-0, securing the 1-0 lead for the Fire. Southeastern's
Bruno Pessoa and
Diego Menendez's match versus Andre Baltazar and Carlos Quinones went unfinished with the Fire up 4-1.
Singles was much more closely contested, Orihuela took care of business quickly defeating Rodriguez 6-1, 6-0 putting the Fire up 2-0. Menendez won his match over Morais, claiming a 6-4, 6-3 victory, this would put the Fire up 3-0. The Royals then notched their first point of the contest with Quinones knocking off Southeastern's Fernandez by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Samuel Reeder clinched the game ending point for the Fire defeating Diogo Pessoa 6-2, 6-3.
The #7 Fire claimed their second consecutive victory and moved to 4-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. On March 4, Southeastern travels to Orlando, Fla. for a four game event, starting with Loyola University Maryland, the time is yet to be determined.
