BRUNSWICK, Ga. — No. 6 Southeastern completed a strong weekend on the road, capping off a series sweep of No. 23 Coastal Georgia with a tightly contested 1–0 victory in Saturday's finale.
The Fire (36-4, 17-1 Sun) leaned on timely hitting and dominant pitching to secure the win, finishing off a three-game sweep of one of the conference's top contenders and moving them to the top of the conference standings.
Saturday's finale was a pitcher's duel from the outset, with both teams struggling to generate offense early. Southeastern managed just four hits in the contest, but made the most of its key opportunity in the third inning. After
Ava Planeta reached base and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt,
Ella Brooks delivered a single to put runners on the corners.
Hailey Bradley followed with an RBI single to left, plating the game's only run and giving the Fire a 1–0 lead.
That would be all the run support Southeastern needed.
Emma Vickers set the tone in the circle, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing four hits and striking out two to earn the win. She worked efficiently through early traffic and kept Coastal Georgia off the scoreboard in key moments.
Edan Playa entered in relief and shut the door over the final three innings, earning her third save of the season. The left-hander scattered two hits and navigated through Coastal Georgia threats in both the fifth and seventh innings to preserve the shutout.
Coastal Georgia (32-8, 17-4 Sun) finished with six hits but was unable to capitalize, leaving multiple runners on base as Southeastern's pitching staff consistently executed in high-pressure situations.
Bradley led the Fire offensively, going 2-for-3 with the game's lone RBI, while Brooks added a hit and scored the deciding run.
SEU returns home to host No. 9 Keiser for a key three-game Sun Conference series at the SEU Softball Field. The Fire will open the series on April 17 before closing it out with a doubleheader on April 18.
