Fire Shine at Emory Qualifier Ahead of NAIA Nationals

ATLANTA, Ga. — Southeastern University Track & Field made a strong final push toward the NAIA National Championships on Wednesday at the 2025 Emory Qualifier, with both the men's and women's squads posting standout performances in their final opportunity to qualify.

The Fire men's relay teams were dominant, capturing two event wins and meeting NAIA 'A' Qualifying Standards in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x100-meter team—James Williamson III, Malik Blunt, Cameron Alamia, and Davien Worrels—blazed to a first-place finish in 39.84 seconds, edging the field by 0.34 seconds. The time broke the track record at Emory, set by the University of Tennessee in 1985.

Later in the meet, Blunt and Worrels returned for the 4x400-meter relay, teaming up with James Turner and Mario Thomas. The group clocked a winning time of 3:12.27, finishing over six seconds ahead of their closest competitor.

On the women's side, Irmiris Mendez and Alyssa Morley led the way with individual victories. Mendez captured first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.12 seconds, earning a 'B' Qualifying Standard. Morley secured the triple jump title with a mark of 11.64 meters.

The Fire will now send their national qualifiers to Marion, Indiana, for the 2025 NAIA National Championships, scheduled for May 21–23.

  • Mills, Jaa'Ln McBride, Areeyanna Bonds, and Mendez ran a blistering 3:46.02 4x400-meter relay, which sets the NAIA record for the 2025 Outdoor Season.
  • Mendez added a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.99), while Morley placed fifth in the long jump (5.45m).

  • In the throws, MarieAnge Moussignac and Allison Craig both finished in the top eight in the hammer and discus. Moussignac threw SEU record 47.19m in the hammer (6th) and 37.33m in the discus (6th), while Craig followed with 34.54m (8th) in the hammer and 35.12m (7th) in the discus.
