LAKELAND, Fla. — Southeastern women's track & field delivered another dominant championship performance Sunday at Tenoroc High School, piling up titles, records and All-Conference honors to capture its seventh straight Sun Conference championship.
The Fire totaled 346 points to run away with the team title, finishing well clear of St. Thomas (204) and Ave Maria (128), continuing a remarkable run atop the conference.
Every top-three finish earned All-Conference honors, and Southeastern collected them across nearly every event group while adding major individual awards.
Leading the honors was
Emma Terry, who was named the meet's Most Valuable Performer after scoring in four events and earning four All-Conference finishes, including a conference title in the javelin and podium finishes in both the discus and shot put. Terry's winning throw of 40.61 meters in the javelin set a new program record, marked the first throw over 40 meters in school history and moved her to No. 2 in the Sun Conference this season.
Freshman standout
Acadia Donovan added another major honor, earning Sun Conference Freshman of the Year after winning both the 10,000 and 5,000 meters. Donovan added the 5K title Sunday in 19:17.31 to complete a distance sweep and help pace the Fire.
Southeastern's distance group continued to shine throughout the day.
Jadyn DeVerna captured the conference title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while
Izzy Colebank joined her on the podium in third to give the Fire two All-Conference finishers in the event.
Maci Mills was a major force as well, winning the 1,500 meters before returning to claim the 800-meter title in 2:10.44, setting both a meet and facility record while hitting the NAIA A standard.
Jaa'Ln McBride added a third-place All-Conference finish in the 800 with an NAIA B standard mark.
On the track, the Fire dominated the hurdles.
Olga Gomez claimed the 100-meter hurdles title in 14.09 to hit the NAIA B standard, then added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters with another NAIA B standard mark.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Southeastern swept the podium as
Areeyanna Bonds captured conference gold, followed by
Ar'Briel Scott in second and
Grace Coggins in third in one of the meet's most dominant team performances.
The Fire also swept the top two spots in the 5,000-meter race walk as
Ashlyn Poulin won the conference title with an NAIA A standard and
Jocelyn Rivera finished second with an NAIA B standard.
In the jumps,
Alyssa Morley turned in a huge championship performance, earning runner-up finishes in both the high jump and long jump before winning the triple jump title.
Alexandria Gonzalez added another podium finish in the long jump, while Coggins contributed an All-Conference finish in the heptathlon.
Southeastern continued piling up points in the throws as Terry added a third-place finish in the discus, while
Avery Brincat earned All-Conference honors with a third-place finish in the javelin.
By meet's end, the Fire had combined conference titles, record-setting performances, national qualifying marks and remarkable depth to once again sit atop the Sun Conference.
From Terry earning Most Valuable Performer honors, to Donovan being named Freshman of the Year, to multiple event sweeps and record performances, Southeastern capped another championship weekend in commanding fashion.
The Fire now turn their attention to the NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, set for May 20-22 at Karl Straus Track in Asheville, carrying the momentum of a sixth straight conference title into the national meet.
