GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Southeastern closed out the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center at Celebration Pointe with multiple podium performances and a tie for the best finish in program history.
The Fire women finished tied for ninth place with 24 points after all 21 events were scored, matching Southeastern's program-best indoor national finish set in 2021. Marian (Ind.) claimed the team title with 51 points, followed by Dickinson State with 41 and Central Methodist with 33.
Olga Gomez highlighted the day for Southeastern, earning a bronze medal in the women's 60-meter hurdles. Gomez crossed the line in 8.49 seconds, tying the Southeastern school record while securing a spot on the podium.
Gomez also competed in two additional finals during the day. She placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.55 before closing her indoor season with another sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, recording a time of 24.42.
Maci Mills added another scoring performance for the Fire in the women's 800 meters, finishing fifth overall with a time of 2:12.41 to earn additional team points.
Combined with
Ashlyn Poulin's runner-up finish in the 3000-meter race walk on Friday, Southeastern's performances throughout the championship weekend propelled the Fire to their strongest indoor national finish in program history.
