LAKELAND, Fla.—A monster third round came up a stroke short of a third-place finish for the Southeastern University women's golf team at The Sun Conference Championship.
In Tuesday's final round, the Fire had the second lowest team score of the day at 301, but remained fourth with a three-day total of 946, finishing a shot behind St. Thomas.
Alejandra Cuellar and
Maria Stephens both posted even par rounds of 72 on Tuesday with Cuellar finishing tied for seventh on the leaderboard with a 54-hole total of 227 (+11). The sophomore posted three birdies and 12 pars on the day. Stephens closed out the front nine on a hot streak with three straight birdies. She finished ninth with a total of 232.
Marlie Smit was 17
th with a 78 on Tuesday and a total of 241. Madylyn Campbell posted a 79 to finish with 248 in 18
th.
Lauren Hosier rounded out the lineup in 24
th at 259, closing with an 89.
The Fire will await an at-large bid to the NAIA National Championship.
