Fire surge in final round, finish one stroke shy of team title as Cuellar wins playoff

LOCUST GROVE, Ga. — No. 9 Southeastern delivered a strong final-round push at The SCAD Cup, finishing just one stroke shy of the team title while highlighting the tournament with an individual championship from Alejandra Cuellar at Heron Bay Golf Club.

Originally scheduled for three rounds, the event was shortened to 36 holes due to cold weather and rain, placing added emphasis on consistency across Monday and Tuesday's play.

Southeastern opened with a 324 (+36) in round one before responding with one of the best rounds of the tournament on Tuesday, firing a 298 (+10). The surge brought the Fire within a single stroke of No. 5 SCAD Atlanta, which claimed the team title at 621 (+45), just ahead of SEU's 622 (+46). No. 7 Indiana Wesleyan finished third, followed by Point.

Cuellar led the way for Southeastern with a breakthrough performance, earning her first collegiate victory. After opening with a 78 (+6), she climbed six spots on the leaderboard with a 74 (+2) in the second round to force a playoff for the individual title. Cuellar secured the win with a steady performance across two playoff holes, finishing at 152 (+8).

Savannah Thessing also delivered a strong showing, finishing tied for third at 153 (+9). Thessing was particularly effective on par-5 holes, leading the field at two-under, and matched the tournament high with 23 pars.

Sadalay Campbell provided one of the biggest jumps of the tournament, moving up eight spots with an impressive second-round 70 (-2). Her even-par final tally of 154 (+10) earned a tie for fifth, while also matching Thessing for the tournament lead with 23 pars.

Abbey Peterson and Avery Glenn rounded out the Fire lineup. Peterson improved by 11 strokes between rounds to finish tied for 13th at 165 (+21), while Glenn placed 20th at 173 (+29).

Southeastern's runner-up finish continues a strong stretch of play against top-10 competition, with the Fire showing depth and resilience in challenging conditions.
