LAKELAND, Fla.—Nine different players had a hit to help Southeastern knock off St. Francis (Ill.) by the count of 15-2 in seven innings.
An eight-run second was plenty for the Fire, getting a two-run double from
Jose Marcano to start the scoring, and was followed by an RBI single by
Josh Pigozzo. A throwing error on a stolen base made it 4-0, and
Chayce Bryant pushed the lead to five with an RBI single up the middle.
Gary Lora cleared the bases with his team-leading eighth home run of the season, a three-run blast to left to cap the scoring.
St. Francis (5-12) picked up a pair of two-out runs in the fourth, loading the bases and drawing a walk and a single to center field.
Lora scored on a wild pitch in the fourth and
Nicholas Block brought in Marcano and
Nick Winkelmeyer with a single to center field to give the Fire a nine-run lead.
In the fifth, Marcano walked with the bases loaded and Block hit a sacrifice fly to make it 13-2.
Pablo Lanzarote brought in a run with an RBI groundout and
Michael Haydak hit a sacrifice fly to score
Brandon Fields in the sixth.
David Mata picked up his second win of the season, working 1.1 innings in relief of
Jay Schueler. Schueler struck out four and walked four over 3.2 innings of work. Mata struck out two of the five he faced, allowing one hit.
Juan Pimentel and
Ryan Eiermann each worked a shutout inning out the of the bullpen with a pair of strikeouts.
This was the sixth-straight game for the Fire with 10 or more runs.
Isaac Nunez and
David Castillo had two hits each. Lora, Marcano, and Block had three RBIs apiece.
The Fire return to action on Wednesday against Calumet College at 3 p.m.
