LAKELAND, Fla.—Top-ranked Southeastern moved to 23-0 on the season with a 14-1 win over Calumet College in seven innings on Wednesday.
The Fire have scored at least 13 runs in each of their last seven games and have ended each game by run rule after seven innings.
Southeastern plated 14 straight runs after Calumet got a home run on the second pitch of the game.
Pablo Lanzarote hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to score
Isaac Nunez to tie the game.
Eight runs came across in the second starting with an RBI single by
Jose Marcano to give the Fire the lead.
Nicholas Block's sacrifice fly pushed the lead to two and a double by
Josh Pigozzo scored Marcano to make it 4-1.
A pair of walks helped load the bases for
Stephen Cullen who hit his team-leading eighth home run of the season, a grand slam to make it 8-1. An RBI double by
David Castillo made it 9-1.
Pigozzo doubled again in the third to score Block and then scored on a
Chayce Bryant groundout.
A two-run homer by
Jose Aquino in the fifth made it 13-1 and an RBI double by
Adrian Mella gave the Fire their final run.
Andrew Long moved to 4-0 with four strikeouts over two innings of work. The bullpen allowed just three hits and two walks over the final five innings with 12 strikeouts.
Reece Wissinger worked a 1-2-3 fourth with three strikeouts.
Hayden Brock also struck out three in the sixth.
The Fire will take on Northwestern (Iowa) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Ted A. Broer Stadium.
