LAKELAND, Fla.—A pair of double-digit strikeout performances helped Southeastern sweep its doubleheader with Point Park on Friday by the scores of 5-1 and 8-2 to improve to 15-0 on the season.
In the first game,
Darien Smith allowed just a solo home run in the second, finishing the day with 13 strikeouts and three walks over six innings of work to pick up his fourth win of the season.
At the plate,
Chayce Bryant had a hard hit ball to shortstop to advance
Nick Winkelmeyer to third who scored on an error. Winkelmeyer doubled home
Josh Pigozzo in the second, then scored on an RBI single by
Isaac Nunez in the next at bat to make it 3-1.
Pablo Lanzarote hit a solo homer in the third to push the lead to three and Pigozzo singled to right to score
Brandon Fields in the fifth.
Lanzarote and Pigozzo had two hits and an RBI each.
Danny Batcher moved to 4-0 on the season in the second game, going six innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Batcher allowed two runs on six hits.
The Fire scored the first seven runs of the game, getting a two-out RBI single to left by Lanzarote in the first, then scored five with two outs in the second with
Adonys Herrera doubling off the third baseman into left field to score
Jose Marcano. A single to third by Bryant scored Nunez, and Lanzarote's second homer of the day and sixth of the season made it 6-0.
Nunez picked up a two-out RBI single to third in the third to make it 7-0.
Point Park picked up the first of two solo homers to lead off the fourth, but the Fire answered with a
Gary Lora solo homer in the bottom of the inning with two outs.
Nunez, Bryant, and Lanzarote had two hits each in the second game. Lanzarote had four RBIs in the contest.
The Fire return to action tomorrow at noon for a doubleheader with Judson.
