Adams’ Gem Highlights Baseball’s 9-0 Win

LAKELAND, Fla.—Robb Adams struck out 13 of the 20 batters he faced to pick up his first win of the season in a 9-0 victory over Judson Saturday afternoon.

The senior struck out the first five batters he faced and got the sixth to ground out to first base. After allowing the seventh to reach base on a hit by pitch, Adams fired back with five straight strikeouts. The only hit Adams allowed was with two outs in the fourth that cleared the left field wall but was ruled a triple after the batter missed home plate.

At the plate, Isaac Nunez extended his season-opening hit streak to 16 with a two-run homer to right in the first to put the Fire on the board first. A throwing error brought in the third run and Pablo Lanzarote hit a sacrifice fly in the second to make it 4-0.

In the fourth, Stephen Cullen brought in a run with a bases-loaded walk and Jose Marcano doubled in two more. Lanzarote picked up his second RBI of the game with a groundout with runners at first and third in the fifth.

Nick Winkelmeyer picked up an RBI single to right in the fifth to push the lead to nine.

Reece Wissinger, JJ Sanchez, and Hayden Brock worked three shutout innings out of the bullpen with three more strikeouts.

Chayce Bryant led the offense with a 3-for-4 effort. Nunez and Winkelmeyer had two hits each.

The Fire will travel to Edward Waters on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. non-conference game in Jacksonville.
