GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—The Southeastern University women's cross country team had a stellar showing at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge at Riverside Park.
The Fire were fifth in a field of 26 teams that featured 16 ranked or receiving votes squads.
Second-ranked Madonna won the meet with 70 points, followed by No. 8 Aquinas (107), No. 4 St. Francis (123), and No. 5 Taylor (147).
SEU had a team score of 194, besting No. 6 Indiana Wesleyan by eight points, and also finished ahead of No. 9 Cornerstone, and No. 13 Rocky Mountain.
Sophomore
Julia Rohm placed 17
th overall in a time of 18:52 to lead the way. Classmate
Makenzie Johnson placed 28
th in 19:11.
Freshman
Emma Woltjer was third on the roster, placing 36
th in 19:19. Ten seconds later, freshman
Madeline Scherer crossed in 52 place.
Junior
Raeanna Pabon rounded out the scoring in 61
st in a time of 19:32.
Southeastern had its entire top seven across the finish line in under 20 minutes with
Kelsi Ogilvie finishing in 19:51 in 81
st and
Emma McLaughlin finishing in 19:57 in 91
st.
The Fire will look to win its second Sun Conference championship in three years in two weeks in Hardeeville, S.C.
