LAKELAND, Fla. -- The SEU Women's Cross Country team showed grit and perseverance in Saturday's 6K race at the 26th FLRunners.com Invitational, held at Holloway Park. Although the Fire did not field a full squad and therefore did not record a team score, the group still made its mark in the 57-runner field.
Leading the way was
Riley McKinney, who turned in an outstanding performance with a 13th-place finish. She covered the course in 25:16.63, earning a top-15 placement and continuing her momentum as SEU's front-runner this fall.
Behind McKinney, the tandem of
Juliet Leatherbarrow and Joselyn Rivera worked stride for stride in the middle of the pack. Leatherbarrow finished 46th in 30:58.77, while Rivera followed closely in 47th at 31:00.18, just over a second apart. Rounding out the Fire's lineup was
Tiarra Jackson, who placed 57th in 39:46.55 to complete the team's representation on their home course.
Southeastern will be back in action on October 11 at the Sand Shark Invitational in Bluffton, S.C. The men's race is set for 8 a.m., followed by the women's race at 9 a.m.
