TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The SEU Women's Cross Country team continued to show growth and resilience at the FSU Invitational on Friday morning at Apalachee Regional Park, placing 23rd overall in a large, competitive field. The Fire totaled 714 points on the strength of a tight scoring pack, with less than 70 seconds separating their top five finishers.
Jadyn DeVerna was at the front for SEU, clocking a 24:33.4 to lead the team and place 128th overall. Just five seconds later,
Joslyn Armstrong came through in 130th with a 24:38.8, giving the Fire a strong 1-2 punch from their young runners.
Izzy Colebank was next across the line in 25:00.1, good for 144th, while
Ashlin Price (25:32.0) and
Ella Sager (25:33.0) sealed the scoring in near-identical times to place 155th and 157th.
Southeastern averaged 25:03 as a team for the 6K course, with the scoring five finishing just 1:14 apart. DeVerna and Armstrong paced the squad up front, while Colebank, Price, and Sager provided steady support to close out the scoring. The results reflected a balanced lineup of freshmen and experienced returners working together in the pack.
Against NAIA competition, the Fire ranked fourth out of six programs in attendance. Taylor led the group with a seventh-place team finish overall, followed by SCAD Savannah in 13th and Ave Maria in 20th. Southeastern's 23rd-place effort slotted the Fire ahead of Dalton State (28th) and Mobile (29th), giving SEU a strong position among conference and regional peers.
The Fire will be back in action on Friday, October 3, at the Florida Runners Invitational hosted at Holloway Park in Lakeland, with the women's race set for the morning session.
