Box Score AUBURNDALE Fla. – Less than 24 hours after battling Bob Jones, the Fire came out strong once again to defeat the Royals of Warner University, 3-1.
Pedro Ivo Dias put the first on the board for the Fire in the 7th minute off a cross from Alex Graham. This would be the only goal of the first 45.
Nicolas Carapia of the Royals answered in the 50th minute scoring Warner's lone goal of the match.
The Fire's final two goals came off the foot of Gerritson Craane. To take the lead, Craane netted his first of two from eight yards out, beating the keeper to his left. Craane's second, and the Fire's third and final goal of the game, resulted from a penalty kick that was pounded into the upper 90.
"This was a big hurdle for our team and I'm really proud of the way they battled," said Coach Clay Roberts. "To come out with a 6-1 record before conference play is great momentum to enter the heart of the season."
Play was rough as indicated by a total of seven cards given throughout the match. With less than a minute to go in the first half, Warner forward Bruno da Silva was given a red card for violent conduct, resulting in an 11-on-10 matchup for the remainder of the game.
The Fire will take the field in Auburdale once again on September 25th as they face Savannah College of Art and Design at 7 p.m.
