Klein's Winner Captures 2-0 Trip to South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — (RV) SEU men's soccer capped off a flawless road swing through South Carolina by securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Columbia International University. The win follows a 3-1 triumph over Spartanburg Methodist less than 24 hours earlier. The Fire move to a perfect 2-0 on the trip and lift their overall record to 3-1-1.

The opening 45 minutes saw high intensity and relentless pressure from Southeastern, though neither side could break through. Southeastern nearly took the lead in the 12th minute when Jacob Dennis ripped a strike that took a deflection and rattled off the crossbar. Despite commanding the tempo and controlling the wings, SEU entered the intermission tied 0-0.

The Fire kept up the pressure in the second half, continually dangerous on the attack. The decisive moment arrived in the 66th minute (65:26). Koren Klein broke the deadlock with a brilliant individual effort, cutting inside to shake a defender and bending a wonderful curler past Ram's goalkeeper into the back of the net.

CIU attempted to push forward late in the match, but the defensive unit held firm. Goalkeeper Noah Murray-Hawkins logged his second clean sheet on the campaign, making two second-half saves on two shots on goal to preserve the shutout. The Northampton, England native was honored with his second Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week award Monday.

SEU dominated the stat sheet, finishing with a massive 23-10 advantage in total shots and holding CIU to just two shots on target. The team will enjoy some time to rest after four road games in ten days.
