SPARTANBURG, S.C. — After trailing at halftime, the (RV) Southeastern University men's soccer team erupted for three second-half goals to rally past Spartanburg Methodist, 3-1, on Monday evening.

The Fire fell behind late in the opening half when Spartanburg Methodist's Yahir Rivera found the back of the net in the 43rd minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Southeastern responded quickly after the break. Fabian Perez leveled the match in the 50th minute, scoring on a free kick just 4:05 into the second half to make it 1-1.

Just over two minutes later, Fabio De Paula put the Fire in front. De Paula collected a pass from Koren Klein, who had received the ball from Pablo Lobon, before finishing emphatically on a breakaway in the 52nd minute to give Southeastern a 2-1 lead.

Filipe Santana had a shot saved in the 63rd minute, which De Paula gathered to extend the Fire's advantage to 3-1, crediting Santana with the assist. The two-goal performance marked De Paula's first goals of the season in his first match played. Southeastern's defense held Spartanburg Methodist without a shot on goal in the second half, while Noah Murray-Hawkins recorded a scoreless second-half effort in goal.

The Fire controlled the attacking play throughout the match, outshooting Spartanburg Methodist 11-2 and putting six shots on target. Southeastern also earned three corner kicks to the Pioneers' two. With the victory, Southeastern improves to 2-1-1 on the season, while Spartanburg Methodist falls to 1-3-0.
