Fire Surge to Second with Tournament-Best Final Round at Sun Conference Championship

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – No team was better on the course Tuesday than Southeastern University. All five Fire golfers climbed the leader board as SEU delivered its best round of the season, vaulting from sixth to finish in a tie for second place at the Sun Conference Men's Golf Championship.

The Fire soared 36 combined spots in the individual standings, fueled by a tournament-best 12-under-par 276 — the lowest team round recorded over the three-day event. Their Tuesday score was nine strokes better than that of tournament champion Keiser University for the round and four strokes better than Keiser's previous-best 280 on Monday.

SEU closed with a three-round total of 867 (+3), following earlier rounds of 294 (Sunday) and 297 (Monday). Keiser secured the championship with a dominant 17-stroke win at 850 (-14), while Southeastern and St. Thomas shared second place.

Individually, Keiser's Adam Buchanan took medalist honors with a 208 (-8), finishing three shots clear of Coastal Georgia's Antonio Jaurbe (-5). Southeastern's Spencer McCranie capped an impressive tournament by tying for third at 213 (-3), alongside Coastal Georgia's Lee Smith.

McCranie, who entered Tuesday tied for sixth, posted a final-round 70 after opening with rounds of 74 and 69. He was one of three Fire golfers to shoot under par on the final day.

Zach Shaw finished strong with his best round of the tournament — a 2-under 70 — to climb into the top 10. Shaw posted a three-round total of 215 (-1) with earlier scores of 73 and 72, placing him ninth overall.

Sophomore Marley Read also shined in the final round, carding a 69 to tie for 16th at 219 (+3). Read rebounded from Monday's 79, book-ending his tournament with rounds of 71 and 69.

Adam Crowley made the largest jump of the day, catapulting into 22nd place with a tournament-best 67 in Tuesday's round. His final total of 219 (+3) tied Read's and his 67 matched the second-lowest round of the entire championship.

Freshman Connor Williams rounded out the Fire's lineup with his best round of the week — a 1-under 71 — climbing six spots to finish 34th overall. Williams improved on his earlier rounds of 76 and 81 to finish at 228 (+12).

The Fire's strong finish has them in consideration for an NAIA National Tournament at-large bid, which will be announced on May 9th.
