Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The Fire kept the early season roll going Saturday. Southeastern took care of Ottawa University (Ariz.) by a 4-0 final, their fourth win in a row to start the season.
Sam Reeder worked quickly and paced the Fire effort, giving up only one game in his sixth singles match against Ottawa's Albin, beating him 6-0 and 6-1. Beforehand, Reeder teamed with Gustavo Rubio for a third doubles final, 6-1, over the By/Carlos Robles matchup.
As a team, SEU (4-0) has now shut out its last three opponents, outscoring them, 15-0. The Fire have won the four matches by a combined 20-2 total.
Sealing the team doubles point, Diego Menendez and Piero Fernandez pulled out a 6-2 first doubles match against the Spirit's Filip Novacek/Arvid Linbald. With his top singles match being third to finish, Menendez ended the day's match with a 6-0 and 6-1 final over Razvan Lazar.
Seeing his first action of the weekend, Alejandro Orihuela made the most of it, as he earned a point with his third singles win (6-1, 6-0) over Novacek. Orihuela teamed with Mark Griffin in a 7-5 second doubles total over Lazar/Kasper Olofsson.
SEU was leading in the other three singles matches, which did not finish.
At second singles, Javier Gallego led Ottawa's Robles (6-1, 3-1). Leonardo Chiari held a strong fifth singles lead (6-1, 3-0) over Lindbald, while Griffin also led in the final match, fifth singles, over Olofsson (6-0, 4-3).
The Fire return to action on Tuesday afternoon against No. 14 Cumberland University (Tenn.) at Beerman Tennis Complex. First serve is at 1 p.m.
