WAVERLY, Ga. – The Fire returned to action in Georgia against regional competitors. Zach Shaw and Adam Crawley both fired three-day under par scores and led Southeastern University to fifth place in the Coastal Georgia Men's Winter Invitational.
Shaw and Crawley posted scores one shot apart with an overall -2 (214) and -1 (215) for the event and captured seventh and 11th places. Both SEU men started the three-day tournament shooting 71 in the first round. Shaw added a second 71, while Crawley had a 72 until both finished with 72 Tuesday scores.
In the team standings, SEU played to a team final of 874 strokes (+10) for fifth place of the 17-team field. Two of the men's top-seven teams took the top two spots with No. 5 Keiser winning the event by eight strokes, -7 (857) to +1 (865), over host No. 7 Coastal Georgia. Webber International and Reinhardt tied for third at +5 (869).
Webber International's Tristan Greenleaf was the individual medalist by two strokes over Trey Schmidt of Reinhardt, 208 (-8) to 210 (-6). The top 11 finishers all shot under par for the 54-hole invitational.
After the top two Fire placers, Nicholas Faraone and Marley Read were also separated by only a single shot. Faraone took 32nd with a 224 (+8), while Read was right behind in 35th at 225 (+9). Both Fire golfers recorded their best rounds on Monday with a 71 by Faraone and a 72 for Read.
Completing the team participants, freshman Connor Williams was consistent with his scores in 50th place of the 88-man field. Williams hit a +14/230 with his best round of 75 in round one and a 76 on Monday.
SEU returns to Georgia this Sunday-Tuesday in the Dalton State Invitational in Valdosta.
