Box Score FULTON, Mo. – The Fire returned to the indoor courts on a national level Friday morning. Lindsey Wilson College edged Southeastern University by taking three of the singles matches for a 4-3 win on the first day of the ITA NAIA Indoor Nationals competition.
After the Blue Raiders took the doubles team point, the Fire's Isabella Bolivar Garces registered her team's biggest win of the day in a third singles upset of No. 6 ranked Mariangeles Mateu by a 6-4, 6-3 final. No. 23 Carlotta Marzano (SEU) took care of her ranked foe, No. 21 Aina Bernabeu in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-4) and Irene Parigi added a SEU singles win over Anastasiia Ivanchenko in the third 3-set final (1-6, 6-2, 7-5) at fourth singles. Lindsey Wilson, though, pulled out the other three wins, including a fifth singles marathon where Mayra Gisone outlasted SEU's Alessia Ciampi by a 3-6, 7-6 (7-0) and 7-6 (7-3) final score.
In the other singles, No. 11-ranked Anastasiia Vorobiova took the second singles decision over Martina Picardi of SEU. Irene Lopez Suero was bested by Lindsey Wilson's Heyka Rodriguez in the sixth singles (6-2, 6-1).
Starting the morning, Vorobiova and Rodriguez of the Blue Raiders slipped past Lopez Suero and Marzano in the first doubles. At third doubles, Mateu and Bernabeu defeated Bolivar Garces and Parigi by a 6-2 score. The two Lindsey Wilson doubles win gave them the point even though SEU's Picardi and Ciampi led the second doubles at 5-3.
SEU returns to the indoor courts on Saturday morning in a 9 a.m. EST first serve against William Woods University.
