MOBILE, Ala. – Southeastern's season came to an end in heartbreaking fashion, dropping a 4-3 decision to eleventh-seeded Loyola in the NAIA National Tournament Second Round.
Loyola took the reins early with the doubles point, securing a 6-3 win on the second flight, and moments later on the top flight in 6-4 fashion. Leonie Schondelmaier and Aurora Compagnucci led on the third flight, 5-4, when doubles was halted
The drama came in singles play, where Southeastern secured a 3-2 lead, but Loyola responded with the final two points to advance.
No. 41 Adele Fereres defeated No. 72 Alessia Ciampi 6–2, 6–2 on court three to put the Wolfpack up 2-0. Southeastern's No. 50 Irene Parigi responded with a 6–0, 6–3 victory over Sofia Amodu on the fifth court to put the Fire on the board. Schondelmaier evened the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court four, defeating Prantha Shanthamoorthi 6–2, 6–4. No. 22 Martina Picardi put the Fire in front soon after with with a 6–2, 6–3 win on court one over over No. 70 Micaela Ponce.
Loyola then showed their resolve, claiming the last two courts to move on.
Avrora Volkova outlasted Compagnucci 7–6 (7–4), 6–2 on court six, and Avery Frierson held off No. 61 Isabella Bolivar Garces 0–6, 6–3, 7–5 on court two.
Southeastern's season comes to end, but it does not water down the landmark achievements they made along the way. Sealing the programs first ever victory over Keiser, and two more firsts in the fashion on the Sun Conferenece Tournament 1-seed, and a Sun Conference Regular Season Title.
