Men’s Tennis Dominates in Singles for Perfect Home Season

Fire men's tennis walked onto Lakeland Beerman Family Tennis Complex for the final time this season, for the final home game versus #21 SCAD-Savannah. The match started slower than the Fire liked, however, they came roaring back in singles play to secure a 4-1 victory, claiming a perfect 10-0 record at home.

Doubles came first, and the Fire struggled to find traction in flights one and two. Flight two came to a close quickly as the Bees Liam Stoica and Mark Tryakshin triumphed over #22 Mark Griffin and Piero Fernandez 6-2. Flight three concluded next in the Fire's favor, as Victor Olivera and Alejandro Orihuela defeated their opponent 6-3. Lastly, the Fire's powerhouse of Diego Menendez, and Bruno Pessoa ranked at #5 were unable to come back and dropped the final doubles match to #42 Danil Ozernoy and David Lopez Cruz 6-4. This gave the Bees the early 1-0 advantage.

Singles wrote a completely different story. The Fire took no prisoners as lines three, four, five, and six dominated their competition. Olivera playing at line five this time around made short work of Cruz winning 6-4, 6-0, his doubles partner, #70 Orihuela, finished next with a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win over Stoica.

After Orihuela, Griffin ran the table on his competition with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory on line six. The game clincher came with Fernandez at line four, as he prevailed over his opponent with a 6-3, 6-4.

Lines one and two went unfinished, #22 Pessoa was locked in tight competition with #13 Ozernoy, the score when the match was clinched was 6-4, 2-2 in favor of Pessoa. Line two was #16 Menendez and Tryakshin who concluded at 7-5, 2-3 in favor of the Bees.

The Fire advanced to (17-4, 6-1 SUN) on the season and SCAD-Savannah dropped to (9-8, 4-3 SUN).
