LAKELAND, Fla. – Southeastern University posted solid team finishes with Zach Shaw and Maria Stephens leading the effort at the SEU Invitational three-day event wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon.
Shaw rose three spots on the final day to seventh for the highest SEU men's placer, while Stephens recorded her own top 10 finish in ninth for the women.
In the team standings, the SEU women logged a final day 313 with a best outing of 303 to open the event for a +69/933 total for fourth place of the 10-team field. Keiser University ran away in the team field by 24 strokes with its +24/888 over SCAD Savannah (+48/912).
For the men, the Fire registered a fifth-place finish of the 11 teams participating. SEU completed the event with a 302 following its round of 295 on Monday and a +40 score and 904-stroke total. Texas Wesleyan bested the field by eight strokes with a +14/878 over St. Thomas at +22/886.
Individually, Indiana Wesleyan's Sam Dykema won the men's medal with a -6 score of 210. Anthony Amoroso of St. Thomas and Brady Meek from Texas Wesleyan were five strokes back at -1/215. For the women, Mohea Mansbendel of Keiser edged her teammate Carolin Alblas and SCAD's Isabela Cuisana by a single stroke, +1/217 to +2/218.
Returning to the men's side, Shaw moved up three spots to his final seventh-place spot. He was a consistent scorer with rounds of 75-72-73 for a +4 and 220 total.
Coming in second for the Fire, Connor Williams grabbed 12th with a +7 (223). Only two strokes behind Williams, both Marley Read and Spencer McCranie shot up the standings and tied for 15th at +9 (225). Read moved up eight positions with his Tuesday 73, while McCranie ascended 15 spots after a final round of 71. Paul Jackson rounded out the scoring men with a 231 total in 27th.
For the Fire women, Stephens started her event scoring with a first round 74 before she totaled 231 for the three days at +15. Coming five strokes back, Madelyn Campbell and Mariana Espinosa, who rose three spots with a final 77, tied for 15th with identical +20/236. The fourth and fifth SEU golfers, Lauren Hosier and Marlie Smit, moved up one and five places on Tuesday and scored equal 23-stroke totals for 17th. Alejandra Cuellar completed the scoring Fire golfers in 30th with a +28/244 and posted an opening round 75.
