Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. – Southeastern University ran its win streak to 10 matches, as the Fire defeated rival Warner University in straight sets for a 3-0 Sun Conferece road win.
The Fire put the opening six points of the night on the scoreboard and never turned back. Southeastern rode the start to an opening set 25-19 win, and in the process not allowing Warner any closer than three points. The Royals scored the opening tally of set number two, but the Fire quickly turned the tables and took control mid-set before posting another 25-19 victory. SEU ran off nine points in the middle of the third set and added the match's final six points to end the contest by a 25-12 score.
With the win, SEU improves to 12-2 on the year and 6-0 in The Sun Conference. It was also the seventh win in a row over Warner (6-8/1-4 The Sun) and fourth-straight in Lake Wales.
Cambry Pope posted a team-best 10 kills to go with a trio of aces and three digs. Both Kennedy Jones and Yarelis Lopez had seven kills apiece. Jones hit at a .400 rate with an ace, while Lopez dug 11 attacks. Sylvia Liszewski added five kills and two blocks and Camdyn Gebhards had four kills and a pair of blocks as well. Chapel Cunningham rounded out the front line with four kills. As a team, the Fire pounded a hitting percentage of .310 with 40 kills in 100 attacks with nine errors.
Alexandra Postlethwaite assisted on 18 Fire kills with nine digs and an ace. Haven Speer added 11 assists and five digs. Jenna Rogers led the back row with 16 digs, while Marysa Connors contributed six digs.
SEU travels to Miami Gardens for a clash with No. 10 St. Thomas University on Saturday afternoon. Match time is 4 p.m. in what will be a battle for first place between the only two undefeated teams in Sun Conference play.
