CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—Southeastern matched the program record for highest placement at the National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi-Division National Dual Championship today at the UNI Dome.
The Fire fell to 6-3 on the season with a 38-3 loss in the semifinals to No. 2 and eventual champion Life and were on the short end of a 25-17 dual against Menlo in the third-place match.
Chris Kelly was responsible for the points in the semifinal with a 10-3 decision in his 149-pound match. The Running Eagles registered bonus points in each of the last five matches of the contest to extend the margin.
The Fire held an 11-6 lead in the third-place match with a forfeit at 125 and a technical fall by
Parker Dobrocky at 149. However, Menlo rattled off five straight wins which included a major and a fall to go up 25-11 with one match left.
Gabe Jacobs closed the match with his third fall of the weekend.
Southeastern will travel to Keiser next Friday for its next competition.
