MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—A total of 16 players contributed in Sunday afternoon's 13-4 victory at St. Thomas to help Southeastern pick up its 41
st win of the season.
Everyone in the starting lineup registered a hit with six players recording multi-hit games and four pitchers held the Bobcats to four runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
The Fire got out to a quick start with a 3-0 lead after a half inning of play with an RBI single by
Pablo Lanzarote a two-run double by
Chayce Bryant. The Bobcats came back with two in the bottom half of the inning but a
Josh Pigozzo sacrifice fly pushed the lead back to two in the second.
St. Thomas picked up a sacrifice fly in the third to get within a run but a pair of RBI singles by
Isaac Nunez and
Gary Lora gave the Fire a 6-3 lead in the fourth. Again, St. Thomas answered with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to two, but the Fire came back with the next seven runs of the game.
Andrew Long came on in the fourth and tossed 4.2 scoreless frames, allowing just four hits with four strikeouts to the 17 batters he faced.
A two-run homer by
Jose Marcano in the seventh gave the Fire some additional breathing room, as did a first-and-third double steal which saw Nunez score in the eighth.
In the ninth,
Adrian Mella scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and
Adonys Herrera was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The final two runs came on a two-run single to right by Lora.
Nunez and Marcano had three hits each. Herrera, Lora, Lanzarote, and
Brandon Fields had two hits each.
The Fire will host Florida Memorial on Friday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
