Home Run Quartet Highlights Run-Rule Doubleheader Sweep

LAKELAND, Fla.—The NAIA leader in home runs smashed nine more during Friday's doubleheader sweep of Florida Memorial.

Southeastern took the first game 11-1 in eight innings with five home runs, then hit four consecutive home runs in the seventh inning of the second game to come away with a 10-0 victory to move to 43-3 and 16-2 in Sun Conference play.

Robb Adams picked up the win in the first game, working five innings and allowing just one earned run on a solo home run in the fourth, walked two and struck out six of the 19 he faced.

The offense had Adams' back, plating seven in the bottom of the first. Adonys Herrera and Gary Lora had RBI singles followed by Pablo Lanzarote's RBI fielder's choice to push the lead to three. Chayce Bryant and Stephen Cullen hit back-to-back homers with Bryant's a two-run shot. Two batters later, Nicholas Block hit a solo homer to right.

Josh Pigozzo hit a solo homer in the fourth, then Lora hit one in the seventh. David Castillo made it 10-1 with an RBI single to center, and Lora ended it with an infield single which scored Jose Aquino.

Lora led the offense with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate with three RBIs. Pigozzo and Block had two hits each.

It wasn't until the third inning of the second game when the Fire got on the board with a two-run triple down the right field line by Nick Winkelmeyer. Castillo picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice and a throwing error added a run.

The Fire pushed the lead to five with a run on a fielding error.

Then came the seventh.

Bryant and Cullen went back-to-back for the second time, then David Castillo drove a ball over the left field wall, as did Jose Marcano to make it 9-0.

Herrera ended the game with a single through the left side with the bases loaded and the infield playing in.

Juan Pimentel moved to 7-0 on the season with six scoreless innings on the mound. He allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out two. Olvis Genao had a scoreless inning out of the bullpen with a walk and a strikeout.

Castillo and Marcano had two hits each in the second game.

The teams will wrap up the series tomorrow at noon.
