LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern cruised to a pair of seven-inning wins in Friday's doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan, taking the first game 17-1 and the second 13-2.
The Fire wasted no time jumping on the board, scoring 10 in the first inning.
Gary Lora picked up his sixth homer of the season, a three-run blast and
Adonys Herrera hit his fifth of the season to bring in three more.
The first of four RBIs in the game by
David Castillo came in the second to bring in
Nick Winkelmeyer and put the Fire up 11-0. Herrera picked up his second homer of the game in the fourth to bring in three more.
The lone run for Iowa Wesleyan was in the fifth on a solo home run. Castillo answered in the bottom of the inning with a three-run homer.
Darien Smith improved to 5-0 on the season, striking out nine over six innings of work. He allowed just one run on three hits and walked one of the 21 he faced.
Olvis Genao struck out two of the three he faced in the seventh.
The Fire scored five in the seventh of the second game to end it early. Iowa Wesleyan picked up an RBI single in the second which was answered with a six-run third by SEU starting with a solo homer by
Nicholas Block. Herrera added a three-run homer and Lora added a sacrifice fly. The Fire also picked up a run on a first-and-third play.
Stephen Cullen homered in the sixth and Nunez added a sacrifice fly to go up 8-1.
In the seventh, Block brought in two with a double and
Josh Pigozzo's single up the middle made it 11-2. Nunez's two-run homer to left ended the game.
Lanzarote was 3-for-4 in the second game. Nunez and Block had two hits and three RBIs each.
Danny Batcher improved to 5-0 with eight strikeouts over six innings of work. Batcher allowed one run on four hits.
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
