Box Score AVE MARIA, Fla.- In a battle between the No. 5 and No. 6 teams in the NAIA, Southeastern women's tennis came up just short by a score of 4-3 to Ave Maria University to move to 9-6 and 2-2 in Sun Conference play.

In doubles play, the Gyrenes took a 6-3 win at line one while the Fire responded with a 6-4 win at line three by
Neleah Neiberline and
Irene Lopez. A 6-4 win by the Gyrenes then secured the doubles point putting the Fire behind by one moving into singles.

Martina Picardi then tied the contest at one and moved her singles record to 8-3 with a three-set victory at line one (7-6, 4-6, 6-3).

The Gyrenes would then take the next two matches, line two and three, after
Beatrice Letizia and
Micah Sypert both came up on the short side of three set battles. Letizia dropped the first set 7-6, took set two 6-1, and dropped the tiebreaker set 6-4 while Sypert dropped set one 6-4, took set two 7-6, and dropped set three 7-5.

Neiberline then fell 6-3 in both sets at line four, putting the Gyrenes ahead 4-1.

Simone Simas and Lopez both two both of their singles matches with Simas clinching a line five win by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 and Lopez taking 7-5 and 6-1 wins as the Fire came up just short.

The Fire will next take on receiving votes Coastal Georgia in Brunswick on Friday.
