Longball Leads Baseball to Win in National Championship Rematch

LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern hit five home runs in an 8-3 win over second-ranked Lewis-Clark State on Saturday in its second game of the day to finish opening weekend 4-0.

Trailing 1-0 after allowing a solo homer to Jack Sheward in the top of the third, Southeastern came back with a pair of two-out, two-run home runs by Isaac Nunez and Gary Lora in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Josh Pigozzo led off the fourth with a solo homer to left to make it 5-1.

That was plenty of help for Andrew Long who picked up the win in his first start with the Fire, striking out six over four innings of work on 71 pitches.

The Warriors (2-2) battled back in the sixth with a solo homer to lead off the inning by Nick Seamons and an RBI double by Leo Rivera to make it 5-3. Lora and Pablo Lanzarote led off the bottom of the inning with back-to-back solo homers to push the lead back to four at 7-3.

Danny Batcher held the LCSC bats at bay for 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit on 40 pitches with four strikeouts and one walk.

A pinch-hit sacrifice fly by Jose Marcano in the bottom of the eighth provided the final run.

Juan Pimentel retired the last two batters on a pair of three-pitch strikeouts.

Nunez, Lora, and Pigozzo had two hits each to lead the offense, and Lora had a team-high three RBIs.

The Fire will return to action on Tuesday against Fort Lauderdale at 4 p.m.
