Baseball Takes Advantage of Miscues to Move to 5-0

LAKELAND, Fla.—A seven-run second helped Southeastern knock off Fort Lauderdale 13-3 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon.

Southeastern came alive when a Pablo Lanzarote reached on a throwing error and came around to score on an RBI single by Nick Block. A two-out walk to Stephen Cullen followed by Michael Haydak getting hit by a pitch loaded the bases for Josh Pigozzo, who cleared the bases with a double to left to put the Fire up 4-0.

Isaac Nunez picked up his third home run of the season in the ensuing at bat to push the lead to six. A walk to Adonys Herrera gave Gary Lora a second at bat in the inning, which he used to drive in Herrera with a single through the left side.

Fort Lauderdale (3-5) picked up a run in the top of the third on an RBI single to center, and the Fire responded with three in the bottom of the inning, getting an RBI single from Pigozzo to score Chayce Bryant. With the bases loaded, Nunez drew a bases loaded walk and Herrera hit a sacrifice fly to make it 10-1.

Southeastern tacked on three solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth when Bryant and Stephen Cullen went back-to-back and Adrian Mella hit a two-out solo shot to center.

The Eagles had a pair of RBI doubles in the seventh for their final two runs.

Bryant finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Pigozzo led the way with four RBIs during a 2-for-3 showing at the plate. Block registered two hits as well.

JJ Sanchez earned his first win of the season by working two shutout innings which saw him strikeout the first five batters he faced. He allowed just one hit and needed 23 pitches to complete the outing.

Reece Wissinger, John Jones, and Hayden Brock each had a shutout inning out of the bullpen.

The Fire will be back in action on Friday against Baker University and Loyola University (La.).
