Baseball Cruises to Win at Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—A seven-run third paired with a dominant pitching effort helped Southeastern knock off NCAA Division II Edward Waters 18-0 in the team's first true road game of the season.

Andrew Long set the tone, working three shutout innings for the Fire with three strikeouts and allowed just three hits on 41 pitches to earn his third win of the season. Edward Surinach allowed two hits and struck out two over a pair of innings of work. Jay Schueler and John Jones each tossed an inning of relief as well with Schueler striking out three of the five he faced.

At the plate, Stephen Cullen started his four-RBI day with a two out single to third base that brought home Pablo Lanzarote in the second. Chayce Bryant also scored on a throwing error to push the lead to two. Bryant's RBI single in the third started the seven-run inning, scoring Josh Pigozzo.

Lanzarote homered to center for his team-leading seventh of the season to bring in three and make it 6-0. Gary Lora hit a two-run homer to left to push the lead to eight, and Cullen homered in the next at bat off a new pitcher to make it 9-0.

Cullen also picked up a two-run homer in the fifth. The Fire also added runs in the fifth on Adonys Herrera's groundout to score Pigozzo and Isaac Nunez came home on a wild pitch.

Jose Aquino's first home run of the season came in the sixth two score two runs. Brandon Fields picked up an RBI single to left to score Jose Marcano and David Castillo belted SEU's sixth homer of the day  with a two-run shot to center.

The 17-0 Fire will return to action on Friday for a doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan.
