Fire Upsets No. 5 Ranked Knights for First Win of the Season

Box Score MACON, Ga.- Southeastern women's tennis fought from behind today to upset No. 5 ranked Middle Georgia State University by a score of 4-3 to move to 1-2 on the season.
 
The Knights started singles play with a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with victories at lines two and three.
 
At line four singles, Neleah Neiberline fell by scores of 6-1 and 6-4 as the Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead but 6-1 and 6-3 wins by Beatrice Letizia at line three brought the No. 12 ranked Fire within one.
 
Martina Picardi tied the match at two with 6-0 and 6-3 wins at line one while Micah Sypert put her team ahead with a line two victory, taking set one 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker and set two by a score of 6-3.
 
The match again became tied after Irene Lopez fell at line six by a score of 6-3 in both sets.
 
Simone Simas earned her team the victory after taking set one 6-3, dropping set two 6-2, and taking the match victory after a medical forfeit by her opponent.
 
Southeastern will next take on Warner University at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex in Lakeland at 1 p.m. on March 1st.
