Box Score MACON, Ga.- Southeastern men's tennis completed an upset victory over No. 6 ranked Middle Georgia State University today by a score of 5-2 to move to 4-0 on the season.
The No. 9 ranked Fire took victories at line one and two doubles by scores of 6-2 with
Christian Garay and
Diego Menendez taking the first match and
Federico Barbon and
Victor Olivera securing the doubles point soon after.
The Knights tied the match at one after Olivera fell by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 and line two.
Garay again helped his team get on the board, this time with a win at singles line one with 6-0 and 6-3 scores to give the Fire the 2-1 edge.
At line three, Menendez dropped set one 6-3 and fought back to take set two 6-3 to force a third. In the tiebreaker set, Menendez was the first to seven and took the match victory with a 7-6 victory after taking the tiebreaker 7-2.
Barbon came up just short in the line four doubles match, dropping set one 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) and set two 6-4 to move the match to 3-2 in favor of the Fire.
Guido Luna and
Enrique Martinez then went on to take both of their singles matches to earn the Fire's victory, Luna with scores of 6-4 and 6-2 while Martinez took set one 6-3, dropped set two 6-2, and earned the match victory after a marathon 15-13 set three.
Southeastern will next take on receiving votes Warner University at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex in Lakeland at 1 p.m. on March 1
