LAKELAND, Fla.—A solid performance from starting pitcher
Danny Batcher and a 12-hit performance at the plate helped Southeastern close its series with No. 17 Oklahoma Wesleyan with a 10-1 win to complete the three-game sweep and improve to 12-0.
In his first start at Southeastern, Batcher went 5.1 innings, allowing just one run on one hit with six strikeouts and three walks to score his third win of the season.
Batcher retired 10 straight at one point, not allowing a baserunner in the third through fifth innings.
This gave the Fire time to build a seven-run lead, highlighted by a four-run third.
Nicholas Block led off the third with a solo homer to left field. With runners on second and third after walks to
Brandon Fields and
Nick Winkelmeyer, a balk was called to score Fields.
Isaac Nunez drove in Winkelmeyer with a single through the left side to make it 3-0.
Pablo Lanzarote hit a sacrifice fly to score Nunez to push the advantage to four.
Josh Pigozzo led off the fourth with a solo homer to left, and a
David Castillo RBI single to left made it 6-0. The Fire made it 7-0 on a first-and-third play with Castillo stealing second and Herrera coming home.
Oklahoma Wesleyan (9-3) scored in the sixth on a bases-loaded single through the left side of the infield.
In the eighth, the Fire added a run when Winkelmeyer singled home
Adrian Mella who led off the inning with a triple off the left field wall.
Adonys Herrera's fifth homer of the season was a two-run shot to left two batters later.
