Box Score HIALEAH, Fla.- The No. 9 ranked Southeastern men's tennis team resumed their dominant start to the season after shutting out their second straight opponent, Florida National, by a score of 7-0 on the road today.
In doubles play, the Fire needed just the first two matches to claim the doubles point after
Federico Barbon and Victor Pilla combined for a 6-1 victory at line three and
Guido Luna and
Enrique Martinez earned the Fire the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at line two.
Christian Garay and
Diego Menendez would also take their doubles match by a score of 6-4.
With the Fire leading by one heading into singles play, Luna grabbed the first singles win with 6-2 and 6-1 set victories at line four. Garay then put the Fire ahead 3-0 with 6-1 and 6-3 victories at line one while Barbon would follow with a line three win (7-5, 6-3).
At line five, Martinez earned his third consecutive singles win with a 6-4 and 7-5 match while the final two matches of the day would need extra tennis to decide the winner.
Christian Della Cioppa took the first set at line six 6-3 and would hang on in set two to take the 7-6 victory, taking the tiebreaker 7-1.
After dropping set one 7-6 after losing the tiebreaker 7-1, Menendez battled long and hard to claim a 6-3 set two victory and force a tiebreaker set which he would claim by a score of 10-5.
The No. 9 ranked men will next face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in a scrimmage on February 24
th in Tifton, Ga.
