LAKELAND, Fla.—A total of 38 takedowns highlighted a 49-0 win in the regular season finale for the Southeastern University wrestling team in its Senior Day win over Truett-McConnell.
The Fire also recorded 48 nearfall points, scoring eight wins by bonus points in the 10 matches and picked up a technical fall in an exhibition match.
Senior
Isaac Crowell was a technical fall winner at 4:55 of his 125-pound match, and senior Ethan Gustillo racked up nine takedowns before winning by fall with nine seconds left in the first period.
Wyatt Kirkham was pushed at 165 in his senior night contest against Ian James, falling behind 5-4 in the third period before coming up with a takedown and four nearfall before the end of the period to score an 11-5 victory.
Stephen Kelle needed just one takedown 14 seconds into the second period to wrap up an 18-3 technical fall win in his last match at The Fire Pit, leaving the mat after a summersault to celebrate.
Seniors
Coleman Bryant and
Gage Braun won their matches by forfeit.
Gavin Riccobono shut out his opponent in a 149-pound exhibition with a technical fall at 4:42.
The Fire will return to action next Saturday in Marietta, Ga. at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Life University.
