LAKELAND, Fla.—Four home runs with two off the bat of catcher
Luis Cabrera helped Southeastern come away with a 13-6 win over Indiana Tech to sweep the three-game series.
The Fire are now 24-0 on the season, improving on their best start in program history.
Southeastern got two home runs in their first two at bats of the game with
Abdel Guadalupe and
Isaac Nunez going back-to-back in the first to start a four-run inning.
Sam Faith drove in
Brian Fuentes with a double to right, then Faith scored on Zach Diewart's single to left.
Indiana Tech (5-7) came back with an RBI triple and an RBI ground out in the third to get within two, but
Luis Cabrera's three-run homer to left in the bottom half of the inning put the Fire up 7-2. The Warriors put up two more in the fourth which was answered with an RBI groundout by
Thomas Broyles. Indiana Tech picked up a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to make it 8-7 and Cabrera again answered with a solo homer to center.
DJ Roberts came on to pitch to get the last out of the fifth and worked 4.1 scoreless innings, scattering five hits with five strikeouts and two walks to pick up his third win of the season.
The Fire tacked on four in the bottom of the eighth, getting a sacrifice fly from Guadalupe, an RBI single by
Jose Marcano, a wild pitch with the bases loaded, and a pinch-hit RBI single by
Shamir Morales.
Cabrera and Nunez had two hits each as 10 different players combined for the 12 SEU hits.
The Fire return to the diamond at Ted A. Broer Stadium tomorrow at 11 a.m. to take on St. Francis (Ill.).
