Baseball Battles Back to Surpass St. Francis

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 3 Southeastern University Fire baseball team topped the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints 11-6 in a back-and-forth affair Tuesday afternoon to improve to 25-0 on the season.

The Fire jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a solo home run by Abdel Guadalupe, his ninth of the season which pushed his career long ball total to 34, which is two away from tying the career record.

St. Francis evened things up 1-1 with a solo dinger of their own in the top of the second.

With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, senior infielder Sam Faith notched his first RBI of the day, singling home Gary Lora to put the Fire back on top 4-3.

However, the Fighting Saints responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-4 lead over SEU.

Faith came through for SEU once again in the bottom of the seventh, launching a three-run laser to right field to regain the lead for the Fire at 7-6. The home run was Faith's first of the season. Faith finished the day 3-4 with five runs batted in.

SEU tacked on four insurance runs in the top of the eighth to crack open the advantage to 11-6.

Fire graduate left-handed reliever Bryce Moyle had his best outing of the season for SEU, tossing four scoreless innings of relief where he allowed just one hit, walked two, and struck out seven in the winning decision on the mound.

SEU is back in action tomorrow for two games, as the Fire host the Calumet College of St. Joseph Crimson Wave at 11:00 a.m. and then a rematch versus St. Francis at 2:30 p.m.
