LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern women's volleyball team is looking to finish the regular season strong with two contests against conference opponents. The Fire will host the Warner University Royals on Wednesday, November 6th at 7 p.m. in The Furnace, then travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face the Keiser University Seahawks on Saturday, November 8th at 1 p.m.
The Fire split the two games they played in last week moving their overall record to 19-8. Southeastern dropped three straight sets to Coastal Georgia before winning in three straight sets over Johnson & Wales.
Against Johnson & Wales, junior Courtney Krause stepped up for the Fire with ten kills and three aces, leading the team in both categories. The Fire made the Wildcats uncomfortable at the net throughout the match, totaling eight blocks and holding them to a hitting percentage of -0.009 for the match.
Southeastern hosts a Warner Royals team on Wednesday who comes to The Furnace with a 5-15 overall record, going 3-11 in conference play. Junior Alexandra Gonzalez leads the Royals in aces (31) and kills (275) and ranks 27th in the NAIA in kills per set with 3.77. In the previous matchup with Warner, the Fire escaped with a five-set victory. In that match Southeastern benefitted from Baylee Warneke, Taylor Gregory, and Emily Boehlein all posting double-digit kills.
The Fire then head down to West Palm Beach, Fla. for their regular season finale on Friday against the Seahawks. Keiser is currently 27-9 overall and 11-3 in conference play, winning seven of their last eight. As a team, the Seahawks are ranked first in the NAIA in total assists (1623) and total kills (1728). Individually, sophomore Brooklyn VandeHei ranks first in the NAIA with 1,329 assists and junior Abbie Seward ranks fourth in the NAIA in total kills with 518. Southeastern defeated Keiser 3-1 the last time the two schools met. Emily Kalmink and Taylor Gregory were key in the Fire victory as they 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
