LAKELAND, Fla. -- SEU's
Laura Bonomi headlined an awards haul for Fire Volleyball, earning both Sun Conference Player of the Year and Attacker of the Year following a dominant 2025 regular season. The junior outside hitter becomes just the fourth Fire athlete to win the league's top overall honor and the first in program history to be named Attacker of the Year, joining former SEU greats Carol Reis and Sandy Cao.
Bonomi led the Sun Conference in nearly every major offensive category, finishing the regular season first in kills (378), kills per set (4.30), service aces (56), aces per set (0.64), points (446.5), and points per set (5.07). She added 369 digs, ranking among the league's most complete two-way performers. Nationally, she closed the regular season sixth in kills per set and fourth in points per set. Bonomi delivered several statement performances, including 23 kills, 35 digs, and 27.5 points against Webber International on October 29, seven service aces versus Reinhardt on August 16, and six blocks at Florida College on October 21. She reached double-digit kills in 24 of 25 matches, providing unmatched consistency throughout the fall.
The Fire were well-represented across the Sun Conference awards, as Bonomi was joined by three teammates on the All-Conference teams. Libero
Marysa Connors and outside hitter
Yarelis Lopez were named First Team selections, while setter
Haven Speer earned Second Team honors.
Connors anchored SEU's defense with exceptional stability, finishing second in the conference in digs per set (4.85) and totaling 422 digs. Her reliability in serve-receive and ability to control the backcourt were central to SEU's success. Lopez produced one of the league's strongest attacking seasons, ranking third in kills (294) and kills per set (3.34) while contributing 354 digs and 24 blocks as a true six-rotation presence.
Speer directed the Fire offense with poise, distributing 549 assists and averaging 6.24 assists per set while helping SEU hit .204 as a team. She added 154 digs and 13 service aces to round out her well-balanced sophomore campaign.
Collectively, Bonomi, Connors, Lopez, and Speer formed the core of a 21–4 SEU squad that closed the regular season as one of the Sun Conference's most complete and competitive teams. Their awards reflect a season defined by balance, depth, and high-level performance as the Fire continue their push into the postseason.
