LAKELAND, Fla.—The Southeastern University volleyball team has won its last three matches and has done so in an impressive fashion.
Last week, the Fire held off a late charge on the road to beat county rival Warner in five sets, then defeated conference co-leader Keiser in four, dominating at the net against the league's top offense.
Southeastern held Keiser to a team attack percentage of .163, and created 26 Seahawk attacking errors. Much of this was due to the presence at the net, recording 10 blocks as a team.
Taylor Gregory led the way with five total blocks, which was coming off of a career-high 18 kills against Warner.
The Fire also got the job done at the service line, recording nine aces and did not concede one.
This week, Southeastern will play home-and-home with conference co-leader Florida Memorial, and will entertain William Carey for a non-conference match Friday night.
The Lions have won 10 of their last 11 following a slow start to the season. Individually, Daphinie Correa is third in The Sun Conference in hitting percentage at .319.
Florida Memorial ranks third in the NAIA in service aces, averaging 2.65 per set, and 172 total aces this season. Biancaliz Cruz has 33 aces this season, with six coming in her last match against Keiser.
SEU's
Emily Kalmink is the conference leader in hitting percentage in league matches by almost 50 points, hitting .428 in 25 conference sets played, committing just eight attack errors in conference games.
William Carey is 11-11 this season, and will look to avenge their loss to the Fire on August 24
th at the Faulkner Invitational, which SEU won in five sets. Mia Hague had 18 kills in the match, which was her career-high until recording 19 two weeks ago against Spring Hill College. She has 14 double-digit kill efforts this season.
