Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala.— In their first day of competition in Alabama, the Southeastern volleyball team handled both William Carey University and the University of Mobile to begin the 2018 season 2-0. The Fire swept the Crusaders before taking down the Rams in four sets.
In the second competition of the day, the Fire upset the University of Mobile, who is receiving votes in the initial poll of the 2018 season. Southeastern dropped the opening set by the slimmest of margins (23-25), but bounced back with three straight victories to capture the match.
Avery Bradshaw, a senior transfer from St. Leo University, captained the comeback with a total of 17 kills over the final three games, while boasting a .316 hitting percentage for the match. The Tampa native finished with a team-best 22 kills.

Emily Kalmink added 12 kills on the day and sophomore
Emily Boehlein collected a career-high 11 kills in the winning endeavor.
The Fire killed at least 13 attack attempts in all four sets, while making no more than five errors each frame. A game-high 15 kills and .308 hitting percentage allowed SEU to capture the second set 25-18, tying the match at 1.
The Rams struggled in the offensive department, registering five or more mistakes in every set. Mobile made ten errors in the third frame, enabling Southeastern to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-20 win.
A stout defensive effort allowed Southeastern to close out the tight contest with another 25-20 victory. Senior
Keniah Rivera Santiago recorded 23 digs, while sophomore
Hannah Kaszubowski added a respectable 14 digs. Setter
Courtney Krause contributed with a double-double, tallying 17 digs and a career-high 43 assists in the competition.
SEU will be back on the court for the second day at the Faulkner Invitational tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they take on Tennessee Wesleyan. Following the match against TWU, the Fire will battle with Brewton Parker as they close out the tournament at 5 p.m.
