Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 11 Southeastern University women's soccer team turned in an impressive result versus SCAD Wednesday night, as the Fire bested the Bees 6-0 on their home pitch. SEU has now scored six or more goals in three of its last four Sun Conference contests.
After being held without a point for just the second time in her collegiate career last game versus St. Thomas, sophomore
Uchenna Kanu responded in a mighty way, netting four goals versus the Bees. This marked her third game with at least four goals this season and pushed her season total to 25.
Kanu opened her flurry of scoring in the 4
th minute, when she received a pass from sophomore defender
Konya Plummer smashed the ball past the keeper far post.
Two minutes later, the Fire converted another chance, as freshman forward
Aisha Solorzano rocketed in a long cross from redshirt senior defender
Megan Penhaligon to quickly give SEU a 2-0 advantage.
The rapid Kanu and Solorzano scoring sequence repeated itself again in the 18
th and 20
th minutes. First, Kanu was played in on a through ball by Solorzano and slotted the ball in far post. And then just two minutes later, Solorzano notched the first multi-goal game of her collegiate career when Penhaligon played a ball to junior forward
Shayna Cole, who crossed it to Solorzano for the finish.
"I thought we came out strong and played some really good football that led to four goals in 20 minutes. Credit to SCAD, they battled hard for 90 minutes, never put their heads down, and made the game tough for us till the end," shared Head Coach
Randy Belli.
The Guatemala native continued her streak of four straight games with an assist.
"Aisha is a special player who has gotten better every day that she's been here. She has taken feedback and applied it and you can see the improvement from game to game," commented Coach Belli.
The Fire took a 4-0 lead into the half, having outshot the Bees 17-4.
Southeastern padded its lead with a pair of second half goals by Kanu.
First, the Abia, Nigeria native finished a well-placed through ball by sophomore midfielder
Bania Duran in the back of the net far post in the 56
th minute.
Kanu concluded another dynamic offensive performance in the 80
th minute, as she headed in a deep cross from the far right side delivered by graduate forward
Estefania Fuentes.
Kanu has 19 goals in Sun Conference play this season, the most by any SEU player in a single season of conference play in program history.
Senior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Romero posted her second straight shutout, recording four saves in the process.
The Fire look to continue building momentum down final stretch of regular season play, as they travel to Bluffton to take on the USC Beaufort Sand Sharks on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
