LAKELAND, Fla. -- Southeastern's season came to a heartbreaking close on Saturday evening at the SEU Soccer Field, falling 1–0 to Lindsey Wilson in overtime in the Second Round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship. Despite dictating play for much of the match and generating a 23–13 advantage in total shots, the Fire were unable to find the finishing touch in a tightly contested postseason battle.
SEU controlled long stretches of the first half, pressing into the attacking third and creating the game's earliest quality chances.
Ariadna Lozano was active throughout, recording six shots and forcing multiple stops from LWC goalkeeper Demi Serman. The Fire outshot the Blue Raiders 13–4 in the opening 45 minutes and earned two corners, but Serman's early saves kept the match scoreless.
The second half brought more sustained pressure from the Fire as
Rebecca Laface,
Sara Irurozki, and
Ramsey Watkins each produced threatening looks. Southeastern again generated nine shots in the period while limiting Lindsey Wilson's rhythm in the midfield. Still, the Fire could not break through as Serman continued a brilliant performance, ultimately finishing with nine saves.
After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the match moved into overtime. Southeastern produced an early shot from Irurozki just 10 seconds into the period, but Serman smothered it. Moments later, a Lindsey Wilson attack led to a foul in the box, awarding the Blue Raiders a penalty kick. Efua Asabel converted in the 91st minute to give LWU the decisive goal.
Ella Sebree finished with two saves for SEU, backstopping a back line that limited chances and held strong throughout regulation. The Fire conclude their season at 13–3–3, advancing to the national tournament for the eighth time in program history and battling to the final whistle in a postseason classic.
