Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala.—In two matches on the final day of the Faulkner Invitational, the Fire volleyball team totaled 30 blocks to pick up a pair of key wins, moving to 4-1 on the season.
The day started with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-22) win over the host Eagles.
Kaitlin Boyd and
Kelsey Morton each assisted on four blocks, and Uche Kojo assisted on three others. The Fire seemed to hit their groove in the second set, hitting with tremendous accuracy, and a .467 hitting percentage on 30 attempts.
Senior
Lydia Rooth led the attack with 16 kills, and also added in 16 digs defensively. Morton added 13 kills.
Alyssa Prescott led the back row with 17 digs.
The Fire came away with a 3-1 win over Mobile, which was receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Preseason Top 25.
Southeastern recorded 16 blocks with Uche Kojo recording nine solos and an assist. The Fire held Mobile to a .154 team hitting percentage, and recorded a .237 hitting percentage of their own.
The match was tied at one heading to the third set with the Fire wining the first (25-22) and the Rams the second (25-21). The Fire were dominant in that set, recorded 13 of their 55 kills, and cruising to a 25-14 win.
With the fourth set tied at 14, the Fire scored the next seven points, six on blocks; five by Kojo to take the advantage. Mobile made it interesting with a 9-2 run to tie the set at 23. The Fire were able to win the set 28-26, taking the two-point advantage on a block by Morton and Boyd and a ball handling error.
Rooth recorded another double-double effort of 18 kills and 12 digs. Kojo added 13 kills, and Boyd chipped in 11 more.
Prescott totaled 20 digs on defense.
The Fire will head to Brunswick, Georgia next weekend for three matches at the Coastal Georgia Invitational.
