Box Score TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla.—After a convincing 25-19 first set victory, it looked like the Fire would cruise to victory.
It wasn't quite that easy.
After dropping consecutive sets, the Fire won the fourth, then claimed a 15-13 win in the fifth set for a 3-2 win.
The Falcons (6-1) took the second set 25-21, thanks to 17 kills, and just four errors on 40 attacks.
During the third set, the Fire took a 17-14 lead after trailing 6-2 earlier. Following a Falcon service error, the Fire had set point at 24-22. Southeastern was unable to capitalize and the hosts ran off four consecutive points, three on kills, to come within 25 points of taking the match.
Late in the fourth set, the Fire picked up two key blocks from
Uchefuna Kojo, and took advantage of eight Falcon attack errors to claim a 25-20 win to force a fifth set.
During the final set, neither team held more than a two-point lead. A kill by Kojo with the Fire leading 14-13 put the match away.
Kelsey Morton paced the SEU offense with a career-high 17 kills on 37 attacks, and hit .324.
Victoria Trueheart added 12 kills. Kojo finished with 10 kills, three solo blocks, and five assisted blocks.
